Abstract

IT workers are professional group with high importance for economy, however dominated by men. The article presents discussions about women usefulness in this profession treated as one of the knowledge professions. Based on questionnaire study of opinion of 74 young female IT workers about their reason for choosing this profession, competencies they have, discrimination thy observed and career plans the issue of discrimination in Polish IT sector are discussed. The results show that 40% of respondents have some relatives in IT profession, and that they do not perceived strong discrimination in their professional life, with one important exception – their peers do not acknowledge their professional success and endower. Discussion of these perception are presented and some recommendation formulated, as well as future research agenda.
