Abstract

The aim of this study was to investigate the main changes that occurred in compensation
practices in organizations representing various sectors in Poland in the last decade. Due to the
transformation, there has been a fundamental change in compensation policies and practices applied
in organizations in Poland. Based on the literature review and the empirical data, the authors explore
compensation practices in Polish organizations prior to transformation and after the fall of the statesocialist
regime, as well as after EU integration. The changes concern development of compensation
strategies, increase in salary dispersion, modification of inefficient incentive programs, and
simplification of the internal structure of compensation, which reduces the number of social welfare
benefits. Nonetheless, the most significant transformation concerned compensation took place in
employer and employee mentality.
