Abstract

The study shows the significance of micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the economy of the European Union and Poland. Attention is paid to administrative and legal barriers, which significantly reduce the business development, in assessment of enterprises. Discussion is focused on the evolution of the legal regulations regarding changes in accounting
connected with Directive 2013/34/UE of the European Parliament and of the Council of 26 June 2013 on the annual financial statements, consolidated financial statements and related reports of certain types of undertakings, amending Directive 2006/43/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council and repealing Council Directives 78/660/EEC and 83/349/EEC (OJ. EU L 182 , p.19). This Directive permits and postulates setting up of different requirements of financial reporting for different sizes of enterprises. This directive must be implemented by EU member states by July 20, 2015.
