Abstract

The idea of ​​sustainable development translates into all industries, including the packaging industry. Sustainable packaging taking into account from the one hand, the need to protect the product from quantitative and qualitative losses, as well as the needs of consumers in respect of communication and the convenience of using the packaging, on the other hand, a high degree of realizing the need to minimize the negative impact of packaging on the environment. The paper presents examples of packaging, implementing, at least in part, the assumptions of sustainable packaging.

Attention was paid to aspects relating to packaging materials - the use of packaging materials or  materials additives from renewable sources and recycled materials. Signaled issues of materials suitable for organic recycling including compostable. Moreover it concerns the most important aspects of the design and construction of packaging that incorporated, significantly reduce the environmental impacts of packaging, particularly highlighted the potential for reducing the weight of packaging, while maintaining an appropriate level of protection for the packaged product.
