BUILDING AWARENESS OF THE ROLE OF KNOWLEDGE MANAGEMENT IN ORGANIZATIONS

This article is devoted to the problem of building awareness of the role of knowledge management in organizations. In the first part of the article the essence of knowledge management by defining this concept, discussing the knowledge management processes, presenting the benefits of KM and identifying barriers to KM is described. Then the importance of building awareness of the role of KM for the competitiveness of organizations operating in the knowledge-based economy is justified. The article also presents the author's model of building awareness of the role of KM showing the path from knowledge through understanding and acceptance to awareness.Then the results of the survey leading to a conclusion that employees have limited knowledge of the knowledge management and limited awareness of the role of KM are presented.
