THE ROLE AND STATUS OF RURAL WOMEN IN POLISH AGRICULTURE

Abstract

The paper presents role and position of rural women with a view to farms‘ managers. For the person in charge of farm, according to methodology of the Central Statistical Office, is considered a person authorized to make certain decisions. In the analyzed farms over 1 ha, 439.2 thousand. women played that role, what was 29.6% of all managers. Women played the leading role (88.4%), generally in small and medium-sized farms (1-10 ha). Women were characterized by a generally higher level of education compared to men and high level of professional and social activity but less agricultural preparation.
