Abstract

The objective of this study was to investigate the conditions for the development of cycling tourism in Warsaw and its surroundings. The paper reviews the most significant demographic and social trends contributing to the development of this form of activity and presents findings of the analysis of cycling infrastructure in Warsaw and its surroundings. In addition, the study involved empirical research conducted with the use of survey technique. The aim of the survey was to understand what views the residents of Warsaw and surroundings hold about the attractiveness of cycling tourism. In the opinion of the respondents it is advisable to extend the bicycle infrastructure and, above all, build more bike paths and bike lanes placed
directly on the roadway. The vast majority of respondents (68%) do not use bike trails, and 55% evaluated them as merely average.
