Abstract

The aim of the research carried out in the article is to identify the state of diversification of the socio-economic level in Polish subregions in 2016. Linear ordering and establishing typological groups similar in terms of the studied phenomenon was carried out using a taxonomic measure of development (TMR) based on standardized sums. On the basis of a synthetic measure, the examined objects were discriminated and four typological groups were distinguished, including objects with a similar level of development of the studied phenomenon. The construction of synthetic indicators was made using two separate sets of diagnostic features characterizing the social and economic aspects of studied subregions. On the basis of the conducted research, it can be concluded that Polish subregions, both in social and economic terms, constitute a heterogeneous group. Often, subregions well developed in economic terms are characterized by unfavorable indicators regarding the social situation. Monitoring the diversity of the socio-economic level is very important, as too large disproportions in the level of development of individual subregions may have a negative impact on the socio-economic development of the entire country. A helpful tool used to assess the degree of diversification of objects are quantitative methods that allow the objectivity of the research results.
